Week 2 took me on the road to Charlotte, North Carolina. Between flights, breweries, and polo fields, I still managed to squeeze in some memorable bites, from airport munchies to NY-style pizza that hit the spot.
A Quick Flight, A Quick Bite
The week started with a trip to Charlotte. Let’s be honest, airport food doesn’t always make the highlight reel. But when you’re hungry and hopping flights, a decent sandwich and a cold drink in Terminal C at LGA can feel like fine dining.
I ate at Trattoria Sunday Supper in Terminal C. I am not sure if it was really a Trattoria, but it was good for an airport restaurant. A few local guides state that it is one of the better restaurants in the Terminal, and I do agree. Located near Gate 72 you are welcomed to dine at the bar or table. I chose the bar.
My order was Rigatoni Aglio e Olio. It had sweet sausage, garlic, olive oil, broccoli rabe and rigatoni. This is one of my go-to orders in chain type Italian restaurants. It did not disappoint.
Beer & Bites in Charlotte
After I was done with work, I checked out a local Charlotte brewery in Concord called Southern Strain Brewery. Great vibes, even better brews. The citrusy IPA I had was crisp and refreshing and would have been perfect with the chicken wings if I ordered them. The guy sitting next to me made was eating them and they smelled awesome.

I was looking for a place to stop and grab a beer on a super-hot Tuesday afternoon. I found this place. Great vibe the moment you walk in. Service was outstanding and beer was top notch. When I go to a brewery that I never visited before I always do the “dealers’ choice” to pick me a flight. This flight was top notch. The O.K. Lunch was super refreshing and tasty. The Hop Helix is a great IPA. All were terrific. I did not eat anything but the guy sitting next to me got the wings and wow – they smelled great. Happy I found this place and stopped by. Will be back again. Oh – they have Pac Man too.
A Familiar Slice
Nothing beats finding a legit NY-style pizzeria when you’re away from home. I grabbed a couple of slices from Benny’s that reminded me of the corner shops back in NY and Connecticut—thin crust, bubbling cheese, and just enough grease to fold and go.

I stopped to get a couple of slices of pizza. I should have just got one. These slices are huge. Kinda NY style. I am from the Northeast so I am very picky about pizza but this was good. Crust was really good. The inside of the place was really cool as well.
Polo Under the Sun
The week wrapped with something unexpected—Sunday polo. There’s something classic about sipping champagne and snacking on lobster rolls while watching the match. We took the family last year and wanted to come back with our friends. We got a large table and had so much fun. It is a great way to spend an evening outside with dinner and a show. The Farmington Polo Club does an excellent job with all of the amenities. The dinner was excellent with fried clams and fish, along with a great steak salad. Will come back again.
