Starting Strong with Local Flavor
The week began with a visit to Cosetta Italian Café in downtown Fairfield, and it didn’t disappoint. I ordered the Pollo Toscana sandwich, packed with grilled chicken, roasted peppers, and melted mozzarella on fresh Italian bread. It was bursting with flavor and perfectly toasted. Cosetta has quickly become one of my favorite new spots in town for casual Italian comfort.

Trying Hungryroot: Convenience with Mixed Results
I decided to give Hungryroot a try this week, a grocery and recipe delivery service that lets you customize ingredients for easy home cooking.
The first meal was Zesty Sirloin Steak + Mexican Rice, which was… fine. One pack of steak looked fresh, the other less so. Still, the convenience was undeniable.

A few nights later, I tried the Tangy Black Pepper Chicken + Zucchini. Unfortunately, I couldn’t use the included seasoning since it contained wheat, and the portion sizes were a little light. While the concept is great, the execution left something to be desired.
I will give it another try in a few weeks.

Simple Eats and Midweek Highlights
Midweek, I stopped at Sapore Deli in Trumbull for a classic chicken cutlet sandwich with lettuce, tomato, and mayo on a hard roll. It hit the spot. Fresh, simple, and satisfying — I’ll definitely be going back.
That night, I headed to The Sinclair in Fairfield for dinner. I started with fresh oysters, which were perfectly briny and cold, followed by chicken piccata — lightly breaded chicken in a lemony butter sauce. Everything was cooked to perfection and full of flavor.

Friday Fun & Game Day Saturday
Friday night kicked off the weekend at Chelsea, a lively spot in Fairfield with great energy and even better happy hour bites. The nachos and small plates were excellent — perfect for sharing with friends over a couple of drinks.
Saturday was a full-on football and hockey day. Friends came down to Fairfield for a fun, food-filled afternoon. We started at Colony Grill for their signature thin-crust pizzas and beers, then made the rounds to Archie Moore’s and Old Post Tavern before heading to the Sacred Heart University hockey game at the Martire Family Arena. The team lost to Air Force, but spirits stayed high. We capped the night at my brother-in-law’s firepit, bourbon in hand, swapping stories under the stars.

The Martire Family Arena opened in January 2023 after construction began in March 2021, the Martire Family Arena is a striking 122,580-square-foot facility built at a cost of approximately $70 million to $75 million. Located on SHU’s West Campus in Fairfield, CT, the arena provides a permanent home for the Pioneers’ NCAA Division I men’s and women’s hockey teams, the university’s nationally ranked figure-skating program, and various club and youth hockey teams.
Architecturally, the arena stands out thanks to its innovative use of floor-to-ceiling smart glass walls—electrochromic glazing that transitions from transparent to opaque at the flip of a switch—providing panoramic views of the 85×200-foot ice sheet and the surrounding landscape while maintaining optimal ice conditions. With a seating capacity of 3,600, luxury suites, club levels, and world-class athletic training and performance areas, the Martire Family Arena isn’t just a venue—it’s a next-generation sports-and-learning environment.
