What I Ate This Week: Burgers, Tacos & Cozy Home Cooking (Oct 27 – Nov 2)

Some weeks are made for simple pleasures — smoky one-pot dinners, comfort burgers, and the kind of tacos that make you crave a second margarita. Between home-cooked meals, local favorites, and a bit of weekend exploring, this week hit that perfect rhythm of comfort and flavor.

One-Pot Dinners and Simple Starts

The week began with comfort on the stove — a One-Pot Chicken with White Sweet Potatoes and Broccoli. The mix of sweet, savory, and roasted flavors came together beautifully, with everything cooked in one pan for that easy cleanup win. Tuesday was all about leftovers, which somehow taste even better when the flavors have settled overnight.

Burgers Worth Repeating

Midweek took us to Old Post Tavern in Fairfield, one of my local “go to’ for a solid burger. Thick, juicy, and perfectly cooked, it’s one of those spots that reminds you why the classics never go out of style. A pint Guinness on the side and some good conversation — exactly what a Wednesday night should be. The burger was so good, in fact, that we went back Friday for round two. No regrets.

Tacos, Margaritas & Good Vibes

On Thursday, we stopped into Geronimo Tequila Bar & Southwest Grill in Fairfield for happy hour that turned into dinner. With the pouring rain outside made it easier to sit a little longer and order some food. The Carne Asada Tacos were incredible, the tender steak, bold seasoning, and all the right toppings. Washed down with a perfectly balanced margarita, it was one of those early fall evenings that remind you to slow down and savor.

Weekend Comfort & Family Favorites

Saturday started with breakfast at Studio Café, a local favorite known for its creative brunches and warm atmosphere. The Nutella Waffles are my kryptonite.

Later, I met my parents at Quattro’s in Guilford, where I ordered the Chicken Florentine — tender chicken over spinach in a light, velvety sauce. Comfort food at its best.

To cap the day, I grabbed a pizza from Romanacci’s in Trumbull to watch the remaining college football games. The pizza is crisp, classic, and always reliable.

Sunday Sweets and House-Hunting Eats

Sunday was all about balance — a little indulgence, a little adventure. I stopped at Oggi Gelato in Norwalk for a scoop (or two) before heading to Dry Dock Bar & Grille for a burger and fries. In between bites, we toured open houses in Fairfield and Norwalk. The Norwalk one was the standout — maybe it’s the next chapter waiting to be written.
